Morning Recess Centers/Spaces We now have interactive centers/spaces in the library at Morning Recess. These centers/spaces include Lego, 100 and 200 Piece Jigsaw Puzzles, Chess, Zoob, Little Bits Synth Circuit Kit (Sound Center) and Light Center.
BATTLE OF THE BOOKS Laie School will once again be participating in Kahuku Public Library's BATTLE OF THE BOOKS! The books are in the same place as last year, on the brown wooden shelf, under the clock. The top shelf has Grades 5-6 level books, the second shelf has Grades 3-4 level books, and the third shelf has Grade 1-2 level books. Students are free to check out books now. In fact, some students have already gotten ahead and started checking out books. . Way to Go Team Laie!

Scholastic Bookaneer Book Fair October 17 - 28, 2016 Laie School recently had our first book fair of the year. It was on Oct. 17 to the 28 in the library. The second week of book fair was during Parent Teacher Conference so everyone came over to the library before or after their conference. The fair ran from after school until 4pm. The theme for the book fair was "Bookaneer Book Fair" There were lots of pirate decorations and prizes. Thank you to all who came to support this event. Don't forget our next book fair will be the week before Spring Break on March 13-17, 2017. That way students will have books to read during the break. The theme is Happy Camper book fair. Also don't forget our Buy One Get One Free book fair on May 8-12, 2017.
Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge Congratulations to Laie Elementary School for having the most minutes read of all the schools in the state of Hawaii (public and private) who participated in the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. For the past two years, our school has had the most minutes read of all the public schools in the state of Hawaii. Each year we have increased our minutes: 2013 - 37, 804 minutes 2014 - 63, 170 minutes 2015 - 100, 932 minutes You will never believe how many minutes we read for 2016! 371,723 Minutes! That is over 3 times the minutes from last year! We also ranked 32 out of 50 states in the nation. Way to go Laie School! Prizes were given out to participants and top readers at our Super Citizen Assembly on October 7, 2016. Special Assembly for Mrs. Ige
Mrs. Dawn Amato-Ige, Governor Ige's wife visited Laie Elementary School on November 9, 2016. She is the ambassador for Scholastic Books in Hawaii. There was a special school assembly for her to present a plaque to our school for being the top school in the state of Hawaii to have read the most minutes during the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. We were so excited First Lady Ige came to visit our school.
